The Tommunist Manifesto

As a great country that expects itself to at least be around for the collapse of Mother Nature at the helms of its byproducts, we certainly are not making the necessary changes to do so. We have the technology to change our political process for the better. Up until now, it has been necessary to have representatives of the people to make decisions because there was no system to inform and easily collect votes. It is very apparent that there are multitudes of ways we can collect votes and inform on a daily basis.

It is imperative for any culture to make sacrifices if it is to continue existing. Ancient and present civilizations have sacrificed lives, economical gains, and intellectual gain. We need to sacrifice time. We need to sacrifice the feeling that we can live on a daily basis ignorant of the issues that face a country. We need to stop selling our principles and freedoms to the highest bidder. We can no longer continue being a corrupted republic.

The process to such is neither easy nor smooth, nor is it going to be perfect. It should however alleviate the corrupted aspects that are rampant presently. Before I discuss the process to an updated form of government, perhaps I should make clear the problems currently, and in the future. The people we have been electing to vote (presumably congruent to what we would decide) for us have had their voting decisions bought by corporations that don’t agree with the general public (otherwise, why would they have to buy their influence). The current system is entirely too dependent on a bipartisan ideology.  Either you are for it, or you are against it. The current system is entirely too dependent on keeping its constituents in the dark and politically ignorant. The current system places an emphasis on rhetoric and eloquent speech, and not enough on actions. The government has become a place of luxury and bullying. Holding a political office is a position of servitude, and is a position that answers to its people. Lawyers and Business persons at the political level hardly know what it is to serve.

Those are the problems that I see worth mentioning, and I guess I wasn’t very thorough in citing examples or even elaborating, but I would like to get into the how, of this process to a direct representation governance. The first thing we must tackle is the uninformed. Giving the uninformed any political power will result in a failure. We began with work, schools, shelters, and libraries. Twice a month, the first and third Thursday of every month, work places, schools, shelters, and libraries will lay host to political forums. Information on all aspects of governmental issues will be provided, free of any bias or personal filters. In the work place, from 3p – 5 p places of employment (with 15 or more employees) must offer an area to accommodate a political discussion, and recommend active involvement with incentives. Similarly schools will offer the same for students, shelters for the homeless, and libraries for whoever remains. The government will also provide a 24/7 television program that informs of current issues and is also has an interactive call in section for questions and debates.  Voting will be enabled 24/7 via the internet, with username – password verification, made within the most up to date security encryption. As you vote you have a chance to read about the issues once more, and then vote accordingly (with an option to abstain), or to submit your own amendments to the issue, which will be considered, discussed and then voted on again in a timely fashion.

For the first two years, this will be merely to get people accustomed to the new legislative process, and the current system in place will remain. The votes will be tallied and used to influence those that represent, but the new system will not be fully enacted. The new legislative process would have certain restraints put into place to allow for decision to be made by the majority. In order for anything to be passed it must garner votes by 60% of the population able to vote. This is of course a drastically larger number than the American elections currently get. The reason we will achieve this (and hopefully even larger turnout) is because we have put into place, a free forum for political discussion, multiple options for getting active that involve all of the socially constructed economical classes.

The need for America to shift to a new form of democracy is here. The general population is no longer being represented and our freedoms are being infringed upon. We have the technology and the power to change this. There does not need to be a major revolution, instead, we need to think of this as an evolution; a change to adapt to the current struggling world. Like many empires and democratic nations before us, we can easily lose the war against time and the kind of challenges time presents, or we can take action and strive to enrich our nation. Instead of stifling our citizens from any cognitive growth, we should facilitate it and plant seeds for the future of the great nation.
